As the weather is officially baking this week, and us Brits are all melting under the strain of it, we decided to look at what’s hot in webdesign this summer! Keeping your cool when it comes to your web site can make all the difference between a website that enhances your bottom line, and one that does nothing!
So grab yourself an ice-pop and have a look at what’s too hot to handle in the world of the interweb…
1. Flat Design
“Flat design is a style of interface design
without any stylistic elements that give the illusion of three
dimensions (such as drop shadows, gradients or textures) and is focused
on a minimalist use of simple elements, typography and flat colors.”
Simply put, flat design is easy on the eye, easy to understand and more importantly very, very hot right now! You can see some great examples of flat design on our very own website!
2. Full Background Images
A full background image immerses your visitor into your online environment as soon as they click through to your website. Using tiling and a mish mash of different pictures is just not trendy this year. Great examples of a well designed, fully immersive background image can be found at www.airbnb.com
3. Parallax Scrolling Sites
In simple terms, parallax scrolling involves the background moving at a slower rate to the foreground,
creating a 3D effect as you scroll down the page. If overused it can become overwhelming for the visitors, but added sparingly it can provide subtle depths and looks amazing.
The above example is taken from the Volkswagon website, which is an excellent example of how to use it sporadically, to get the look just right!
4. Bold Fonts
Here at GT Creative, we love a good font! The typeface you use for your business and your website really can make all the difference. Handwritten
fonts, mix and match type, and large type are once again en vogue, following on from their popularity last year. Kula and Blind Barber are too very popular additions to WordPress and the font world in general this year.
Following on from the popularity of the flat design, the infographic is definitely here to stay – for geeks, nerds and everyone else!
“Information graphics or infographics
are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge
intended to present information quickly and clearly. They can improve
cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system’s
ability to see patterns and trends.”
Lovely! We like to use the odd infographic here at GT Creative and our clients love them. Being able to lay out information in an easy to read, informative and trendy looking way helps your website stay bang up to date and looking proper!
