You Know You Only Want It Cos It’s Hot Right Now!

As the weather is officially baking this week, and us Brits are all melting under the strain of it, we decided to look at what’s hot in webdesign this summer! Keeping your cool when it comes to your web site can make all the difference between a website that enhances your bottom line, and one that does nothing!

So grab yourself an ice-pop and have a look at what’s too hot to handle in the world of the interweb…

1. Flat Design

“Flat design is a style of interface design
without any stylistic elements that give the illusion of three
dimensions (such as drop shadows, gradients or textures) and is focused
on a minimalist use of simple elements, typography and flat colors.”

Simply put, flat design is easy on the eye, easy to understand and more importantly very, very hot right now! You can see some great examples of flat design on our very own website!

2. Full Background Images

A full background image immerses your visitor into your online environment as soon as they click through to your website. Using tiling and a mish mash of different pictures is just not trendy this year. Great examples of a well designed, fully immersive background image can be found at

3. Parallax Scrolling Sites

In simple terms, parallax scrolling involves the background moving at a slower rate to the foreground,
creating a 3D effect as you scroll down the page. If overused it can become overwhelming for the visitors, but added sparingly it can provide subtle depths and looks amazing.

The above example is taken from the Volkswagon website, which is an excellent example of how to use it sporadically, to get the look just right!

4. Bold Fonts

Here at GT Creative, we love a good font! The typeface you use for your business and your website really can make all the difference. Handwritten
fonts, mix and match type, and large type are once again en vogue, following on from their popularity last year. Kula and Blind Barber are too very popular additions to WordPress and the font world in general this year.

5. Infographics

Following on from the popularity of the flat design, the infographic is definitely here to stay – for geeks, nerds and everyone else!

“Information graphics or infographics
are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge
intended to present information quickly and clearly. They can improve
cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system’s
to see patterns and trends.”

Lovely! We like to use the odd infographic here at GT Creative and our clients love them. Being able to lay out information in an easy to read, informative and trendy looking way helps your website stay bang up to date and looking proper!

Green Tornado offered a supportive 1:11 service, the have been amazingly patient with us, our new website looks absolutely brilliant - the care and attention put into helping us get it right was far beyond what we could have asked for. We will definitely be using Green Tornado again for future requirements. We are more than happy to recommend the team at Green Tornado and look forward to working with them again.

I've been working with Green Tornado for just over 5 years. In that time they have designed countless flyers, posters, product labelling, newsletters and other promotional stuff that my business required. Most importantly they understand my brands' 'vision' - possibly better than I do myself! All the work produced is fantastic and of very good quality. Over the years I've had some pretty tight deadlines but they've never been missed. Would definitely recommend!

We were a start up company when we started to work with GT and I have to say they have been so tolerant and helpful From us not actually knowing what we needed to not knowing what we could actually afford the team were supportive and understanding. They have helped us at short notice , which , to be honest must drive them mad because we still do it now years down the line , yet time and time again they deliver . I send over ideas and they turn that into an amazing finished product , they have , without doubt , helped our company grow . I have no hesitation at all in recommending them and I will never be going anywhere else , they know our company and what we want to portray and have taken the time and made the effort to get to know exactly what we need and want - you can’t put a price on that !
