Are you ready for Google’s mobile-friendly deadline?
Google, the brand leading internet search engine, has announced that from the 21st April it
will give priority to websites that are mobile friendly. As an
experienced web site design and development company, we are asking
all our clients to reassess their websites current suitability to
this, and offer our guidance and expertise where we can.
So what does that mean for you?
If you’ve been holding out on getting a new website, now is the time to make this a top
priority. A fully responsive website will allow visitors to view your
site on your mobile devices. Google is fully aware of how important
this is when visitors search for individual sites, and will now place
responsive websites higher up the search results rankings than a
traditional desktop website.
So simply, if your website is not mobile-friendly, you can kiss goodbye to any chance of
getting a high ranking first page placement on Google.
How can you tell if your site is ready or not?
The good folk at Google have already taken the first step towards determining whether your
existing site is able to take advantage of these new changes, by
using its Mobile-Friendly Test. Simply open the page, enter your URL and click “Analyze.”
If your site scores well, it’s a good indication that you are mobile
ready. You should still take the time to read through their
recommendations and be ready to invest in new ways to improve your
website when it comes to redesigns in the future.
If your website fails the test, it is time to think about upgrading. Modern websites are far
more likely to be viewed by someone on their mobile or tablet device
than on a traditional PC. Having a mobile-friendly website, which is
low on clutter, expertly coded and loads quickly will improve your
search engine rankings as well as allow more people to access your
site. If your website is not ready for the new Google algorithm roll
out, your potential customers may not able to find you, which could
equate to a loss of revenue.
The bottom line is to not take this news lightly. Mobile and tablet usage will continue to
rise, and search engines like Google will continue to favour websites
that are ready to embrace responsive and mobile friendly websites.
